Concorde – English Pear Variety

The shape of the Concorde is elongated and bottle-shaped. The skin is rough and dry and shows small rust spots typical of the variety.

Origin

Concorde was bred in 1969 at East Malling Research Station in England. Parent strains are Comice and Conference.

Season

Concorde is available from the end of September to March.

Taste

The Concorde variety has crunchy flesh, is juicy-sweet, and not very acidic.

Use

Concorde is excellent for raw consumption. But it also tastes delicious in fruit salad, cake, compote or dessert.

Storage

Concorde pears should be stored in a dark and cool place to preserve their full flavor and freshness. The fruit and vegetable compartment in the fridge is a good choice. Pears ripen very quickly compared to some other types of fruit and should therefore not be stored for too long. Therefore, pears should always be eaten within 5 days. So you can enjoy the full aroma. Unripe pears continue to ripen very well at room temperature. When storing, make sure that they are not in a bowl or in the vegetable compartment together with other fruit and vegetables. Then you are doing everything right.
