Cooking carrots properly – preparation
- Wash, peel, and trim the carrots before cutting them into the desired shape.
- You can cut the carrots into slices or cubes, for example. Small finger carrots are prepared whole.
- For two people you need about 350 grams of carrots.
Cook carrots properly – that’s how it works
Soft-boiled carrots taste particularly good as a vegetable side dish with meat and fish.
- Bring enough water to a boil in a saucepan with a little salt.
- Add the carrots to the boiling water and let them cook, covered, for about five to fifteen minutes. The thickness of the carrot pieces determines the cooking time.
- You can use the cooking test to find out whether the carrots are done: poke a piece of carrot with a knife. If it slips easily off the knife, the carrots are done cooking. Pour off the water.
- Season the carrots with salt and pepper to taste and add a tablespoon of butter for flavor.
Cook carrots properly – steam them to preserve vitamins
- Heat some butter and salt in a saucepan. Also, add a little sugar or honey to taste.
- Add the carrots with three to four tablespoons of water.
- Cook the carrots in the covered pot, tossing them occasionally.
- Here, too, the cooking test is recommended to find out whether the carrots are fully cooked.
