For lovers of old and slightly smaller apple varieties: Cox Orange is one of the oldest varieties that are still available in food retail. It is a flavorful autumn apple with a juicy flesh. The slight russeting on the side of the calyx is typical of the variety.

Origin

Cox Orange was found as a chance seedling in England around 1825. This apple variety has been on the market since 1859.

Season

Cox Orange is sold from late September to February.

Taste

The apple tastes sweet and spicy and has a pleasant acidity.

Use

Cox Orange is used as a table, roast and cooking apple.

Storage

While many apple varieties can be stored for a very long time, Cox Orange is one of the varieties that soften more quickly. Harvest time and room temperature play an important role. If the apple is harvested early, it stays fresh and crisp longer. Cox Orange should also be stored in cool rooms and not together with other types of fruit. It is therefore advisable to store it in the refrigerator so that the freshness and aroma are perfectly preserved.
