Don Diego's Bit Burger

Spread the love

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 500 g onion(s), red
  • 3 tbsp olive oil
  • 3 tbsp balsamic vinegar
  • 2 tsp honey
  • 2 sprigs of thyme
  • 1 bay leaf
  • salt and pepper
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • 500 g minced beef
  • 1 head of lettuce
  • 1 tomato(s)
  • salt and pepper

Instructions

Working time approx. 10 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 20 minutes; Total time approx. 30 minutes

Hamburger with onion jam

For the onion jam: Peel the onions, halve them, and slice them into thin strips. Heat the oil in a pan, add the onions, and sauté gently with the lid on for 10-15 minutes. Stir occasionally. Add the balsamic vinegar, honey, thyme sprigs, bay leaf, salt, and pepper to the onions and sauté for another 5-10 minutes. For the bit burgers: Divide the ground beef into four portions. Place each portion in a round cookie cutter and flatten to form hamburger patties. Heat the oil in a pan and fry the patties on both sides. Season with salt and pepper. Toast the hamburger buns in the oven. Top each half with a lettuce leaf. Add a slice of tomato to the top half. The bottom half will be used for the fried hamburger patty. Now pile a generous portion of onion jam on top of the patty and serve both sides of the bun open on a plate. This goes well with “Don Diego’s Nat King Cole Slaw” and – logically – a fresh, cool, tart, bright bit.
