As an alternative for making donuts, you can also use the deep fryer. For about four servings you need the following ingredients: 140ml milk, 70g butter, 50g sugar, 380g flour, 1 egg, 1l frying fat, 1 packet of dried yeast, 1 pinch of salt, glaze, and toppings of your choice.

  • First, put the milk together with the butter in a saucepan and wait until the butter is liquid. Then mix the two ingredients together and remove the pot from the heat.
  • Now mix the flour with the dry yeast and then add the liquid milk and butter as well as the egg, sugar, and salt.
  • Then knead the ingredients either by hand or with the dough hook of the food processor until a homogeneous dough is formed. This one now has to go for about an hour.
  • Now put the frying fat in the fryer and heat it up to 180°C.
  • Then, using a little flour and a rolling pin, roll out the dough to about 1cm thick.
  • Now cut out circles with cookie cutters. The diameter should be about 9 centimeters. Then take a smaller cutter, about 3cm in diameter, and use it to poke a hole in the center of each circle.
  • When the donuts are done, you will need to rise again for about 20 minutes.
  • Now you can put the pieces of dough in the fryer. Be careful not to fry too many donuts at the same time and that they get a light golden brown color on both sides.
  • When the donuts are done, you can use a spatula to remove them and place them on paper towels. Once the pastries have cooled, you can decorate them with your choice of icing and toppings.

Making donuts in the oven – this is how it works

But not only the fryer serves as a donut maker replacement but you can also bake the pastries in the oven. For about 4 servings you need 370g flour, 150ml milk, 60g butter, 60g sugar, 1 egg, 1 packet of dry yeast, icing, and toppings of your choice.

  • First, put the butter in a saucepan with the milk and wait until the butter has melted. Then remove the pot from the stove.
  • Now put the flour with the yeast in a bowl and stir well. Now add the sugar, the egg, and the prepared mixture of butter and milk.
  • Then knead the mixture with your hands or the dough hook until you get a homogeneous dough. This then has to go for about three-quarters of an hour.
  • Then take the dough and roll it out with a little flour and a rolling pin. The dough should then be about 1-2cm thick.
  • Now you can cut out the donuts: First use a cutter with a diameter of about 9 cm and use it to cut out the large circles. Then take a smaller cutter and use it to make the holes in the middle.
  • Now place the circles of dough in a donut mold that you should grease beforehand and let it rise again for three-quarters of an hour. In the meantime, preheat the oven to 180°C top and bottom heat.
  • Then put the donuts in the oven and let them bake for about 12 to 15 minutes. When they’re golden brown, they’re done. You can then decorate the finished baked goods with glaze and toppings, such as crumbles.
