Drinking Soda: You Should Definitely Know That

Drinking baking soda has proven itself as an old home remedy for many years as a helper in various ailments. This health tip tells you how healthy the home remedy is for your body and how you can use it.

Drink baking soda for heartburn

Baking soda mixed with water neutralizes acid. So it is an adequate remedy for heartburn, which is usually caused by rising stomach acid. If you have a permanent heartburn problem, you should take a soda cleanse. You can do this easily and conveniently at home. To do this, proceed as follows:

  • Before eating anything, dissolve half a teaspoon of baking soda in a full glass of water. It is best if you heat the water to lukewarm. Take the mixture in small sips at short intervals.
  • Then put half a teaspoon of lemon juice in a glass of cold water. Also drink this mixture in small sips.
  • It is important that you take a break before taking it. The break should last ten minutes before you drink. Please pay attention to this time interval.
  • After that, you have to wait an hour before eating your breakfast. This is the only way for the two substances to have a full and good effect on you.
  • You should repeat this drinking cure every five days with a break of five days. After the five-day break, start the procedure again.

Well-known, tried and tested: baking soda for sore throats and colds

You can use baking soda for a sore throat and get relief.

  • For a sore throat, mix up a full tablespoon of the powder and dissolve in 400-500ml of water. Rinse your mouth vigorously with it. Gargling helps your throat, where the pain is usually most severe.
  • If you have a cold, do a 3-day course of baking soda: On the first day, drink 200 ml of water five times with 1/2 tablespoon of baking soda.
  • On the second day, dissolve 1 1/2 tablespoons of baking soda in 600 ml of water. Drink the solution throughout the day. On the third day, mix 400 ml of water with a tablespoon of baking soda and drink the solution throughout the day.
  • It is also often recommended to drink baking soda when you have a bladder infection. This is said to reduce the acidity of your urine and you should experience less pain when urinating due to the change in urine to alkaline. However, that is not true. The pain when urinating is not caused by the acid in the urine, but because the bladder wall or urinary tract is inflamed.
  • An alkaline environment in the bladder is also counterproductive when it comes to fighting off bacteria. Escherichia coli are usually responsible for bladder infections. The bacteria like to hide in the cells of the bladder wall, making it difficult for antibiotics to access them.
  • Researchers discovered in 2015 that the cells in the bladder wall are very good at expelling the bacteria so that they can be flushed out with the urine. However, this requires an acidic environment. In an alkaline environment, the cells cannot expel the coli bacteria as well. Baking soda does, however, neutralize acid.
