Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 1 orange(s), untreated

  • 150 g sugar
  • 1 stalk(s) cinnamon
  • 8 carnations
  • 6 figs

Instructions

Working time approx. 20 minutes; Total time approx. 20 minutes

Red wine glasses

Rinse the orange, peel the rind, and cut into thin strips (or zest it). Squeeze out the juice and set aside. Melt the sugar in a wide saucepan over medium heat until light brown. Immediately add the red wine (careful, it will splash!). Let it boil until the sugar has dissolved. Add the cinnamon stick, cloves, orange zest, and orange juice, and reduce the liquid by half. Meanwhile, rinse and halve the figs. Add the figs to the liquid and let them steep over low heat for 5 minutes. Remove the pan from the heat and let the figs cool in the liquid. Serve with vanilla ice cream.
