Fresh and original variation of the classic Kässpätzle

Chop the walnuts, slice the apple into small, thin pieces, slice the onion into rings, and grate the cheese. Heat the spaetzle with a little butter in an ovenproof pot. At the same time, heat the cream and melt half of the cheese in the cream. Season to taste. Roast the onion rings in a pan. Briefly heat the apple and walnut pieces in a pan with a little butter. Pour the cream and cheese sauce over the spaetzle and mix well over medium heat. Add the remaining cheese and let it melt. Finally, add the apple and walnut pieces and, if necessary, return to the preheated oven for a short time. Season to taste with salt and pepper, scatter the onions over the spaetzle, and serve. Serve with a fresh, colorful salad.
