French toast

Spread the love

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 8 slice(s) white bread, more if needed
  • 3 eggs
  • 400 ml milk
  • 80 g sugar
  • 80 g butter

Instructions

Working time approx. 15 minutes; Total time approx. 15 minutes

Preheat the oven to 200 degrees Celsius (top and bottom heat). Whisk the eggs and milk in a baking dish, then add the sugar and mix well. Then place the slices of white bread on top, ensuring the entire dish is lined. For a round dish, simply tear two slices into pieces and place them on the edges. Then gently press the white bread slices down with a fork to help them cook through more quickly. After about 5 minutes, all of the slices will have set; only a very small amount of liquid should remain when you push the slices to the side. Then spread the butter on top. Place the casserole in the hot oven on the middle rack for about 20 minutes. The casserole is ready when it has risen nicely and is golden brown. It goes just as well with apple sauce, vanilla sauce, or just on its own. Note: if there is still too much liquid, simply tear another slice of white bread into pieces and add it.
