Fried sandwiches

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 4 small tomatoes
  • 250g mozzarella
  • 3 sprigs basil
  • 8 slice(s) toast bread, (sandwich toast)
  • 100 g cooked ham
  • some salt and pepper
  • 3 eggs
  • 375 ml milk
  • 3 tbsp oil

Instructions

Working time approx. 15 minutes; Total time approx. 15 minutes

Wash the tomatoes and cut into thin slices. Slice the mozzarella. Rinse the basil, shake dry, and pick off the leaves. Top 4 slices of sandwich bread with tomatoes, mozzarella, ham, and basil. Season the tomatoes with salt and pepper. Cover each slice with 1 sandwich bread slice and press down lightly. Whisk the eggs and milk in a deep plate and season with salt and pepper. Toss the filled sandwiches in the oil and press the edges together. Heat the oil in batches in a pan and fry two sandwiches for two to three minutes on each side. Remove and keep warm. Fry the remaining sandwiches in the same way, cut them in half diagonally, and serve.
