Freeze fruit properly – the best tips and tricks
- Before freezing, wash the fruit thoroughly with a cold detergent. Then dry it with kitchen paper.
- Although fruit can also be frozen in one piece, you should generally cut the fruit into smaller pieces beforehand.
- Remove bruises and larger blemishes. If the fruit is already overripe, you should no longer freeze it.
- Plastic containers are best for freezing fruit. Leave some space here, though, as fruit expands a bit when frozen. Alternatively, you can also use freezer bags for freezing.
- Extra tip: attach great importance to the appearance of the fruit, spread them out individually on some baking paper, and then freeze them. After a day you can then store the fruit together in a tin or bag. This way the fruits don’t stick together and keep their shape.
- Avoid freezing watermelons, bananas, and green grapes. The fruit loses a lot of taste and consistency. The same goes for plums and cherries.
- If you want to preserve the vitamins in the fruit, a little sugar helps to preserve it. In addition, the fruit can be stored for a few months longer.
- Fruit can be stored in the freezer for around six to ten months, and even up to a year if you add sugar.
- Exotic fruits last a maximum of six months.
