Gooseberry Crumble

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 250 g flour
  • ½ tsp baking powder
  • 125 g brown sugar
  • 125 g butter
  • 1 kg gooseberries or other berries
  • 200 g sugar, if desired
  • Cream for serving

Instructions

Working time approx. 15 minutes; Total time approx. 15 minutes

Original English and simply heavenly…

Crumble the butter, flour, and baking powder into a large bowl and add the brown sugar. The 200g of white sugar is included in the original English recipe, but isn’t usually needed unless the berries are very tart. Stem and wash the gooseberries, and place them in a nonstick dish. Spoon the crumb mixture over the berries and press down lightly. Bake in a preheated oven at 180°C for 45 minutes. Serve hot with cream.
