Grandma's linseed butter

Spread the love

Ingredients for 2 servings:

  • 50 ml oil (linseed oil)
  • 4 tbsp flour
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • possibly quark

Instructions

Working time approx. 5 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 5 minutes; Total time approx. 10 minutes

tart spread

Heat the linseed oil in a pan until it reaches the desired browning, then carefully add the flour until it reaches a paste-like consistency (careful, it will foam). Stir continuously until browned, if necessary. I like it buttercup yellow best. Season with salt and, once cooled slightly, spread it on bread. Alternatively, you can mix the mixture with quark before spreading it on bread. It tastes very tart, but is very healthy, as linseed oil lowers cholesterol. A quick tip: I also use linseed oil for frying potato pancakes; it has a hearty, tart flavor, and as a diabetic, it’s a great way to cut down on the otherwise obligatory sugar.
