sweet roses, makes 16 pieces.
For the dough, make a dough from the ingredients and chill for about 1 hour. Divide the dough into about 3 pieces, roll out to a thickness of about 5 mm and cut out circles (6 cm in diameter) using a Turkish tea glass. Place 3 circles on top of each other, roll up and cut in half. Place the roses on a greased dish; a tepsi (a round baking tray) is best, but a large casserole dish will also do. The recipe is designed so that all the roses fit on a tepsi with a diameter of 36 cm. Now bake the roses in a preheated oven at 150°C for 30 minutes. For the syrup, put the cinnamon stick and cloves in a tea strainer and simmer all the ingredients in an uncovered pan for 15 minutes. A foam will form, which must be removed. Finally, add the juice of half a (small) lemon and simmer briefly. Pour the syrup onto the roses while it is not very hot, so that the tips are still visible. Let it steep for 1 day.
