A recipe for the grill or oven. Makes 12 pieces.
Grease a 12-hole muffin tin with a little sunflower oil. Remove the edges from the bread and set aside. Roll out the bread very thinly with a rolling pin. Line muffin tins with the flat slices of bread. Cut the bacon and onions into small cubes. Brown both in a pan with sunflower oil. Cut the edges of the bread into small cubes and add them to the pan with the onion and bacon; lightly toast. Allow the onion and bacon mixture to cool. In a bowl, season the sour cream with nutmeg, pepper, and salt. Crush the garlic and mix it into the sour cream. Whisk the egg and stir in. Add the cooled onion and bacon mixture and fold in. Spoon the filling into the muffin tins lined with the thin slices of bread. Grate cheese and sprinkle on top, if desired. Bake in a preheated grill/oven at 180-200°C (350-400°F) for 20-30 minutes, until the muffins are golden brown. Note: When baking on the grill, close the hood and place the baking tray over indirect heat.
