Almonds are sold with and without skin. Even if the hard almond shell has already been removed, the term “shell” is often used. What is meant, however, is the brown skin that encloses the core. Whole almonds are great for nibbling, with or without skin, but shelled almonds are used in many recipes.

Removing the skin from almonds is easy. We will show you step by step how you can easily peel the wholesome treat yourself:

  • Place the almonds in a saucepan and cover with water.
  • First, let them boil in the closed pot and then simmer for about 3 minutes.
  • Drain the almonds with a sieve and then briefly rinse them with cold water.
  • Peel off the almond skin.

Almond kernels are full of nutrients and proteins. But the skin also has a lot to offer, because it provides fiber that can have a positive effect on the intestines. So is it better to eat almonds with just the “shell”? That depends: Ultimately, it’s a matter of taste. The mild-sweet note comes out better with skinned almonds.
