Kritharaki dessert with figs

Ingredients for 2 servings:

  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 100 g Kritharaki (rice-shaped noodles)
  • 400 ml milk
  • 40 g sugar
  • 1 vanilla pod(s), including the pulp
  • 4 tbsp orange blossom water
  • 4 figs, fresh or soft fruits
  • 2 tbsp almond flakes, roasted
  • some honey for drizzling

Instructions

Working time approx. 15 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 20 minutes; Total time approx. 35 minutes

Remembering Greece

Melt the butter in a saucepan and lightly fry the kritharaki. Add the milk, sugar, and vanilla extract, bring to a boil, and simmer gently for about 20 minutes with the lid almost closed. Stir occasionally. Stir in the orange blossom water and then chill. Stir occasionally to prevent a skin from forming. Divide the dessert between two plates, garnish with the figs, scatter with flaked almonds, and drizzle with honey.
