Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 400 g wheat flour
  • 100 g sugar
  • 2 tbsp oil, neutral
  • 1 tsp turmeric
  • ½ tsp cinnamon
  • ½ tsp vanilla sugar
  • 50 g margarine
  • 100 ml water, hot
  • 8 m.-large date(s) without stone
  • 1 packet of dry yeast
  • powdered sugar

Instructions

Working time approx. 10 minutes; Rest time approx. 20 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 20 minutes; Total time approx. 50 minutes

Halve the dates and melt the margarine in a saucepan. In a large bowl, mix the flour with sugar, spices, and yeast. Add the melted margarine along with the oil and water and quickly knead everything into a smooth dough. Cover and let rise in a warm place for about 20 minutes. In the meantime, preheat the oven to about 175°C (convection oven) and line a baking tray with baking paper. After 20 minutes, use a scoop or 2 tablespoons to scoop out 16 dough balls from the yeast dough and place them on the baking tray. Press half a date into the center of each. Bake in the oven for about 20 minutes. Then dust with powdered sugar, if desired.
