Beat the margarine/butter with the sugar on high speed until fluffy. Gradually add the eggs, milk, and cooking oil. Beat everything on high speed until creamy. Sift the flour with the baking powder and stir into the batter in portions. The batter should retain its creamy consistency. Preheat the oven to 170°C fan/convection oven (175°C top and bottom heat). Drain the mandarins well. Line a 12-hole muffin tin with paper cases. Divide the batter among the 12 cases and place about 3 mandarin orange pieces on each muffin. Bake the muffins on the middle rack for 20-30 minutes. Then let them cool on a wire rack and sprinkle with powdered sugar just before serving.
