Matjesplatte North Sea

The perfect matjesplatte north sea recipe with a picture and simple step-by-step instructions.

  • 12 piece Herring fillet
  • 2 piece Fresh tomato
  • 2 piece Onion
  • 1 piece Cucumber
  • 2 piece Gherkins
  • A bit of sAlt
  • Black pepper from the mill
  1. Drain the matjes in a colander. If the matjes are too salty, soak them in water for about 1 hour. Wash tomatoes and cucumber and cut into slices. Peel the onions and cut into rings. Halve the pickles lengthways and cut fans with a sharp, thin knife. Pat the matjes dry with kitchen paper and arrange on a serving plate. Cover the herring with the tomato and cucumber slices. Spread the onion rings on the herring and garnish with the cucumber fans. Put some salt on the tomato and cucumber slices. This is served with pellets and bacon sticks. Good Appetite
