with fresh minced meat and canned tomatoes – a truly hearty treat
Roughly chop the onion and mix with the ground beef and eggs. Season generously with salt and pepper or ground beef seasoning. Then stir in the canned tomatoes and their juice. This will create a somewhat runny mixture, which is then poured into a rectangular baking dish. Now mix the wheat flakes into the mixture until it reaches a firmer consistency and is only slightly moist. However, you shouldn’t use too many flakes and be sure to use unsweetened wheat flakes. I got the recipe from the USA, where I always used so-called “Wheaties,” but I haven’t been able to find them in Germany yet. There are alternatives from the relevant companies in Germany, however. Sweetened cornflakes are definitely not suitable here! Smooth the mixture and place it in a preheated oven at 180°C (350°F) until the top crust is golden brown. Cooking time: about one hour. The meat casserole can be cut into rectangular pieces, much like a lasagna, and served as is. As a side dish, I recommend, for example, a side dish. E.g. potato gratin or mashed potatoes and perhaps a light salad.
