Meatballs with Gouda sauce

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 1 stale roll
  • 1 onion(s)
  • 500 g minced meat
  • 1 egg(s)
  • salt and pepper
  • 500 ml meat broth
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch
  • 375 ml milk
  • 150 g cheese (Holland Gouda, old)
  • pepper
  • 1 bunch of parsley
  • nutmeg

Instructions

Working time approx. 30 minutes; Total time approx. 30 minutes

Soak the bread roll in water. Then squeeze it out well. Peel and finely chop the onions. Mix both with the minced meat and egg. Season generously with salt, pepper, and nutmeg. Form the dough into dumplings. Let them simmer in hot meat broth over low heat until cooked through. For the sauce, mix the cornstarch with a little milk. Pour into a saucepan with the remaining milk and the freshly grated cheese. Heat gently, stirring frequently, until everything is well combined. Season with pepper and nutmeg. Arrange the dumplings on a platter and pour the sauce over them. Sprinkle with finely chopped parsley. Suggestion: Serve with tagliatelle.
