Mr. Tom Liqueur

Spread the love

Ingredients for 1 servings:

  • 10 sweets (Mr. Tom peanut bars)
  • 500 g sugar
  • 300 ml water
  • 700 ml vodka or grain alcohol

Instructions

Working time approx. 40 minutes; Rest period approx. 42 days; Cooking/baking time approx. 10 minutes; Total time approx. 42 days 50 minutes

Leave the Mr. Toms in the packaging and break them up with a kitchen hammer. I used a spirit level for this because I didn’t have one. Then transfer the pieces to a preserving jar. Make caramel from 300g of sugar and a little water. Dissolve the remaining sugar in the water with a little heat and add it to the preserving jar. The caramel will stick to the peanuts. Don’t worry, even if it’s rock hard now, it will dissolve over time and the peanuts will also be soaked. Let it cool, then add the vodka. Let it stand for at least 6 weeks, swirling every few days to ensure everything is well mixed and dissolved. After 6 weeks, collect the peanuts in a colander and then run the liquid through a coffee filter. Bottle it. Makes a great gift. I made my liqueur just before Lent, so it will be ready for Easter.
