Ingredients for 6 servings:
- 2 large onions, in rings
- 125 ml ketchup
- 2 tsp vinegar (white wine vinegar)
- 1 tbsp brown sugar
- ½ tsp salt
- some pepper
- some chili powder
- 6 pieces of Bockwurst
- 6 buns (hot dog buns)
- possibly mustard
- possibly cheese, grated

In a saucepan, cover and simmer the onion rings, ketchup, vinegar, and seasonings for at least 15 minutes, until the onions are completely soft. Heat the sausages in water until hot. Layer the sausages and sauce in hot dog buns. Serve with mustard and grated cheese, if desired. The onion and ketchup topping is cooked because it keeps better when sold from the hot dog carts on the streets of New York.
