Grandma Liese’s recipe for cough and hoarseness

Melt the sugar in water and vinegar over medium heat. Then add the grated onion and stir constantly until it browns until honey-like. Butter a baking sheet and pour the mixture onto it. Let it set slightly, then cut into slightly larger pieces. Once the mixture has cooled completely, break it into small pieces and let it rest for another 3-4 hours in a dry place, spread out. These candies, like onion juice, are a time-honored cough and hoarseness remedy. They are very popular with children because they are also a delicious sweet.
