Oranges in honey

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 4 oranges
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 5 tbsp port wine
  • 1 pinch(s) cinnamon powder
  • Mint, for decoration

Instructions

Working time approx. 15 minutes; Rest time approx. 2 hours; Cooking/baking time approx. 5 minutes; Total time approx. 2 hours 20 minutes

Cut the peel of the oranges all the way around, removing even the thin white pith. Cut the oranges into thin slices. Pour the juice into a pan. Add the honey, lemon juice, port wine, and cinnamon and heat. Simmer gently until the mixture thickens slightly. Add the oranges and let them steep briefly on the turned-off stovetop. Allow to cool. Pick and wash the mint leaves. Sprinkle over the oranges. Serve with plain vanilla ice cream. Tip: Fresh figs also taste delicious in this way, either instead of or alongside the oranges.
