Ouzo meatballs

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 70 g bread(s), white, without crust
  • 500 g minced beef
  • 1 onion(s)
  • 1 garlic clove(s)
  • 1 egg(s)
  • 1 tbsp ouzo
  • 1 tsp oregano
  • 1 tsp thyme
  • 1 tbsp parsley, chopped
  • 1 tsp mint, optional
  • salt and pepper
  • Flour for turning
  • Oil for frying

Instructions

Working time approx. 20 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 15 minutes; Total time approx. 35 minutes

Soak the bread in lukewarm water for a few minutes. Place the minced meat in a bowl. Then squeeze the bread dry and add it to the meat. Finely chop the onion and garlic. Add both to the meat along with the egg, ouzo, herbs, and spices. Knead the mixture until well blended. Season again to taste. Form the meat mixture into walnut-sized balls and coat them in flour, shaking off any excess flour. Heat oil in a pan and fry the balls until crispy on all sides. Drain on kitchen paper. Tip: If desired, add 1 teaspoon of mint to the minced meat mixture.
