Oven dumplings with apples and almonds

Spread the love

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 400 g white bread (loaf), stale
  • 125 g sultanas
  • 50 g butter
  • 500 g apples, sour
  • 100 g almond flakes
  • 6 eggs
  • ¼ liter of milk
  • ¼ liter cream
  • 3 tbsp sugar
  • ½ tsp cinnamon

Instructions

Working time approx. 20 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 40 minutes; Total time approx. 1 hour

Preheat the oven to 200 degrees Celsius (gas mark 3). Grease a baking dish with half the butter. Cut the bread into thin slices. Wash the sultanas under hot water in a sieve and dry them. Peel the apples and cut them into wedges. Alternate layers of bread, apples, and sultanas in the dish, scattering the flaked almonds between them. The top layer should be slices of bread. Whisk the eggs with the milk and cream well. Fold in the sugar and cinnamon and mix. Pour the mixture over the casserole. Sprinkle the remaining butter on top in small pieces. Bake in the preheated oven for about 40 minutes until golden brown. This goes best with vanilla sauce or semi-whipped cream with advocaat.
