Ingredients for 4 servings:
- 6 salted herring(s)
- 3 onions
- 2 small bay leaves
- 8 peppercorns
- 375 ml vinegar
- 250 ml water
Instructions
Working time approx. 35 minutes; Rest period approx. 4 days; Total time approx. 4 days 35 minutes
Soak the salted herring in water for 12-24 hours, then wash them thoroughly several times to loosen the scales. Cut off the heads and peel off the black inner skin. Wash the herring again and then layer them in a small stone pot with the sliced onions and spices. Mix the vinegar with the boiled, cooled water and pour the marinade over the herring. Let it marinate for 2-3 days.
