Austrian dessert, refined with almond crust

Stone and quarter the plums. Peel, quarter, core, and slice the apples. Place the plum and apple pieces in a bowl and mix with the sugar, cinnamon, and flaked almonds. For the egg wash, mix the milk, eggs, custard powder, and sugar well. Dip half of the slices of toast into the egg wash and line a lightly greased baking dish. Trim the slices slightly if necessary. Arrange the plum and apple pieces on top. Place the remaining egg wash-dipped slices of toast on top. If there is any egg wash left, spread it over the bonfire. Bake in a preheated oven at 180 degrees (top/bottom heat) for about 35 minutes. For the almond crust, melt the butter in a saucepan on the stovetop. Stir in the sugar and flaked almonds. Spread this almond mixture evenly over the pre-baked bonfire and bake for another 10 minutes. Serve with vanilla sauce, if desired. The specified quantity is enough for 3 – 4 people.
