The Red Boskoop is the classic cooking and baking apple. It is therefore booming in the winter time. The fruit is large and has a rough surface typical of the variety.
Origin
The Boskoop was found around 1860 as a chance seedling in the Netherlands. For several decades there has also been the Red Boskoop, which differs from the Green Boskoop only in color.
Season
Red Boskoop is sold from October to April.
Taste
The taste of the Red Boskoop is tart and sour and refreshingly spicy. It has an intense aroma.
Use
Roter Boskoop is an ideal cooking and baking apple as well as a baked apple.
Storage
Red Boskoop apples store well. As with all other apple varieties, a cool room is ideal, but storage in the refrigerator is also highly recommended. Since apples emit ethylene during ripening, they should not be stored with other fruit or vegetables. It will wilt faster as a result. Generally speaking, Roter Boskoop can be kept for about a week at normal room temperature.
