Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 3 fish fillets (matjes fillets)
  • 60 g meat sausage
  • 1 cucumber(s), pickled, (sweet and sour)
  • 1 apple (Boskop)
  • 125 g jacket potatoes
  • 2 eggs, hard boiled
  • 125 g sweet and sour beetroot
  • 25 g walnuts
  • 2 tbsp mayonnaise
  • 150 g sour cream
  • 3 tbsp vinegar
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • ½ tsp pepper
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 onion(s)
  • 1 small jar of capers
  • Beetroot juice (optional)

Instructions

Working time approx. 25 minutes; Rest time approx. 1 hour; Total time approx. 1 hour 25 minutes

Soak the herring fillets in water for about 1 hour, then cut all ingredients into small cubes. Chop the walnuts. Stir in the mayonnaise, sour cream, vinegar, and beetroot juice, if desired. Season with salt, pepper, and sugar, and add capers, if desired.
