Ingredients for 1 servings:

  • 500 ml tomato ketchup
  • 60 ml apple cider vinegar
  • 60 ml Worcestershire sauce
  • 60 ml brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp beetroot
  • 2 tbsp mustard, hot
  • 1 tbsp Tabasco
  • 1 tbsp spice mix (barbecue spice)
  • 2 tsp flavoring (liquid smoke)
  • 1 tsp black pepper

Instructions

Working time approx. 15 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 30 minutes; Total time approx. 45 minutes

spicy sauce for grilling and also for marinating

Combine all ingredients in a saucepan and simmer until the sauce thickens and darkens. Pour into jars while still hot; it will keep forever. You can, of course, replace the ketchup with passata with sugar and vinegar if you like. I deliberately used “ml” for the sugar, so you can use the measuring cup you’re already using.
