Scheiterhaufen (Bavarian apple and bread casserole)

Ingredients for 1 servings:

  • 2 slices of bread (mixed bread)
  • 2 apples
  • possibly raisins
  • 1 egg(s)
  • ½ jar low-fat milk
  • 1 pinch(s) cinnamon powder
  • 1 dashes sweetener
  • 1 tsp cinnamon sugar

Instructions

Working time approx. 10 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 20 minutes; Total time approx. 30 minutes

Dice the bread, coarsely grate the apples, and arrange them in alternating layers in a casserole dish (approx. 20 cm). Whisk the egg and milk, season with cinnamon and sweetener, and pour over the ingredients. Bake the casserole in a preheated oven at 180°C (top/bottom heat, gas mark 2) for about 20 minutes. Sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar before serving. Tip: If you like, you can add some raisins to the grated apples.
