Shepherd's Pie

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 300 g minced lamb or beef
  • 1 large onion(s)
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 500 g potatoes, floury
  • some milk, if necessary
  • some butter, if necessary
  • salt water
  • 3 dashes Worcestershire sauce
  • 200 ml meat broth
  • 1 tsp cornstarch
  • some water to mix
  • 150 g Cheddar cheese, grated
  • salt and pepper
  • Fat for the mold

Instructions

Working time approx. 30 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 30 minutes; Total time approx. 1 hour

Preheat the oven to 220°C (top/bottom heat). Peel the potatoes and cut into small cubes, then boil in salted water. Meanwhile, brown the minced meat. Peel and finely dice the onion and fry. Crush the garlic and stir in briefly. Deglaze with stock and season with Worcestershire sauce. Season with salt and pepper. If necessary, thicken slightly with cold cornstarch. Place the minced meat mixture in a greased baking dish. Mash the drained potatoes. If desired, add a little milk and butter, and add some of the grated cheese. Spread the mashed potatoes over the minced meat mixture and sprinkle with the cheese. Bake the Shepherd’s Pie in the oven for approx. 15-20 minutes (depending on the desired degree of browning).
