moist, spiced sponge cake, soaked in syrup

Grease a 1-liter heart-shaped baking dish and preheat the oven to 180°C. Cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat the eggs in a cup with a fork and gradually stir them into the butter mixture. Sift the flour, mix with the nuts, spices, and baking powder, then stir into the butter mixture along with the brandy and milk. Pour into the dish and bake for 30-45 minutes. Meanwhile, bring water and sugar to a boil until dissolved. While the cake is still hot, pierce it several times with a toothpick and pour the syrup over it. Let cool. For 12 slices, the cake contains approximately 250 kcal per slice. This cake is similar to a Greek nut cake (karidopita), but the ingredients are slightly different.
