Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 600 g fish(s) (Bismarck herring, drained weight)
  • 750 ml milk (3.5%)
  • 10 grains of allspice
  • 4 bay leaves
  • 1 large onion(s)
  • salt and pepper

Instructions

Working time approx. 15 minutes; Rest time approx. 4 hours; Total time approx. 4 hours 15 minutes

without cream

Skin the herring, cut into bite-sized pieces, and place in a bowl. Peel the onions, halve them, and slice them into rings. Add the onions, allspice berries, and bay leaves to the fish and pour in the milk. Season generously with salt and pepper. Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 3-4 hours (preferably overnight). Serve with boiled potatoes as a side dish.
