Spiced nuts with maple syrup and orange

Spread the love

Ingredients for 1 servings:

  • 200 g walnut halves
  • ½ tsp coriander powder
  • ½ tsp ginger powder
  • ½ tsp pepper
  • ½ tsp allspice powder
  • ½ tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp cinnamon powder
  • 1 tsp sea salt, more to taste
  • 1 organic orange(s), peel
  • 2 tbsp oil, neutral
  • 3 tbsp maple syrup

Instructions

Working time approx. 30 minutes; Rest period approx. 3 days; Cooking/baking time approx. 15 minutes; Total time approx. 3 days 45 minutes

Mix the spices well. In a sufficiently large bowl, stir together the maple syrup and oil. Zest the orange peel with a zester. Alternatively, coarsely grate the orange peel. Roast the nuts on baking paper in a preheated oven at 160°C (top/bottom heat) for about 5 minutes. Then add them to the bowl with the oil mixture and mix well so that all the nuts are coated and the liquid is almost absorbed. Sprinkle the spices over the nuts in several portions, mixing well after each portion. Return the seasoned nuts to the baking sheet and spread them out. Continue baking for about 10-15 minutes. Remove the nuts from the oven and sprinkle the orange zest over them. Mix well and let cool. Once cooled, fill the nuts into screw-top jars and let them steep for 2-3 days.
