Store apples in the refrigerator: this is important
If you have a lot of apples at home, it is advisable to store them in a cool, dark place. However, there are a few things to keep in mind:
- The optimum temperature for storing apples is 4°C. High humidity and air supply are also important.
- Storing fruit in the refrigerator is often not the best choice. Because the apples must not come into contact with other fruit or vegetables. This is because apples release ethylene, which causes other fruits and vegetables to ripen faster.
- In addition, the apples in the refrigerator do not have sufficient humidity and supply. Therefore, other places such as the garage, the basement, or the pantry are better suited for storing the fruit.
- Here the apples can be stored on shelves or in fruit boxes. Be careful not to let the fruit touch each other.
- Because otherwise, bad spots can spread faster.
- If you decide to store the fruit in the fridge, first make sure that it is at the ideal temperature of 4°C. It must not be lower. Because apples are very sensitive to frost.
- Also, keep the apples in a separate fruit bowl in the fridge. Make sure they don’t come into contact with any other fruit or vegetables.
- To give the apples the moisture they need, you can wrap them in a damp paper towel.
- Storage in the refrigerator is only suitable for short-term storage of the apples. If you want to store the fruit for a longer period of time, it is better to switch to other cool places.
