Cottage cheese goes well with any food. However, a large amount of protein causes a pronounced insulin response. The expert told us which foods are good for cheese and which are very harmful.
“Cheese can be combined with any food. However, a large amount of protein causes a pronounced insulin response (insulin is a hormone that regulates carbohydrate metabolism – ed.) This means that the body absorbs nutrients faster. The addition of fat to protein reduces the insulin response (that’s why cottage cheese with 9% fat or cottage cheese with sour cream is healthier than low-fat cottage cheese – ed.) Those who have problems with high sugar levels should not combine cottage cheese with simple carbohydrates: for example, jam, honey, overripe bananas,” says Pavlo Isanbayev.
According to the expert, it is better to add greens, and bell peppers to cottage cheese or choose cottage cheese with a higher fat content – at least 5%.
Another healthy option is to eat a portion of vegetables before cottage cheese – in the form of cabbage or greens: fiber will reduce the insulin response.
