The Prince's favorite sauce for steak

Spread the love

Ingredients for 1 servings:

  • 4 tsp oil, all except olive oil
  • 2 small onions, red or white
  • 2 tbsp balsamic vinegar
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 160 ml tomato puree, from the package
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 4 tbsp sauce, (teriyaki sauce)
  • ½ tsp soy sauce
  • ½ tsp mustard, medium hot
  • 1 dashes of Tabasco or chili sauce

Instructions

Working time approx. 10 minutes; Total time approx. 10 minutes

A homemade sauce. Perfect with steak, chops, or bratwurst.

Finely dice the onions. Heat the oil in a pan, then add the diced onions and sauté lightly over moderate heat, stirring occasionally. Then increase the heat to higher, pour in the balsamic vinegar, and sprinkle over the sugar. Let it simmer gently (about 1-2 minutes). Once the slightly pungent smell of the vinegar has dissipated, stir in the tomato puree, Worcestershire sauce, teriyaki sauce, soy sauce, and mustard. Bring to a boil briefly, then simmer over low heat for about 3 minutes, stirring continuously. If you like, add a dash of Tabasco or chili sauce at the end. Can be served hot or cold, although we prefer the warmed version. I came up with this sauce because I didn’t want to serve my husband boring ketchup with his rump steak. So I started experimenting a bit with the ingredients I had. The result was a sauce that he absolutely loved. Since then, the ketchup has served its purpose and is living a lonely existence in the fridge.
