Trapper milk

Spread the love

Ingredients for 5 servings:

  • 4 liters of milk
  • 1 bottle of maple syrup (250 ml)
  • 1 bottle of rum 54% (0.7 l)
  • 1 stalk(s) cinnamon, large
  • 1 vanilla pod(s) (or vanilla sugar)

Instructions

Working time approx. 1 hour; Total time approx. 1 hour

Drink at the campfire

Put the 3-4 liters of milk, the contents of the scraped-out vanilla pod, and the cinnamon stick into a kettle or large pot suspended on a tripod over a campfire. To allow the milk to absorb the flavor, heat it slowly, stirring constantly. This should take about 45 minutes, and do not allow it to boil. When it is quite hot, add the maple syrup and continue stirring. Finally, when it is hot, add the rum and then you can pass it around (in enamel cups). It should never boil, though, hence the constant stirring! It is a very tasty drink for cold days, but you do have to be careful, because it can quickly knock you over without you even noticing. It is very popular in our hobby, but also at barbecues.
