Water in the fridge: drain blocked?
- Condensation inevitably collects in every refrigerator. There is a small hole in the floor at the bottom of the wall so that the water can drain away.
- If this drain is clogged, the water can no longer drain properly. Such a blockage can also be caused by small parts and is the most common cause of water in the refrigerator.
- You will usually find the small hole in the middle at the lower end of the rear panel. You can free the drain again with a toothpick or a cotton swab.
Water in the fridge: defective seal?
- The door seal can also cause problems after just a few years. If the seal no longer fulfills its task properly, warm air can enter at this point and large amounts of condensation can form.
- If you can’t find any damage to the seals, put a flashlight in the fridge in the evening. There is a defect if you can see the light from the outside.
- Replacing the seal is relatively inexpensive.
Tips & Tricks: Avoid water in the fridge
- Do not place cans, packaging or even opened food directly against the wall. The condensation accumulates in large quantities and can even freeze on the wall.
- Even very warm or still hot food can cause puddles in the fridge. Due to the high temperature difference, the condensation water accumulates within minutes. Warm food should therefore first cool down to room temperature outside the refrigerator. If you open
- the fridge very often and leave it open longer, this also contributes to the formation of condensation.
