Ingredients for 1 servings:
- 200 g yellow split peas
- 1 onion(s)
- 1 garlic clove(s)
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tsp, levelled sugar
- salt and pepper
- Cayenne pepper
- Chili powder or curry powder

Cook the split peas in three times the amount of water for 60 to 90 minutes without adding salt or any other spices. Gently aerate the lid with a wooden spoon to prevent boilovers, and check the water level occasionally. Finely chop the onion and garlic clove and sauté over low heat with the olive oil until translucent. Then lightly sprinkle the sugar over the split peas and caramelize. At the end of the cooking time, only a small amount of cooking water should remain in the pot. Combine the onion and garlic mixture with the split peas and puree. Season to taste with spices.
