Instructions
Working time approx. 10 minutes; Total time approx. 10 minutes
the pirates’ drink in a weakened form
Heat the water in a large pot. Suspend the tea bags and add the rum (if you’re having trouble with the strength of the drink, you can use half the rum first and then taste). Slice the lime and orange (both should be untreated) and add them, peel and all, to the pot. Heat until boiling, then keep warm on heat setting 1. Let the tea steep thoroughly (3-4 minutes), then remove the tea bags and citrus fruits. Add a handful of rock sugar and honey to taste. You can sweeten the grog with just this, or if you like, add regular sugar afterward, so you can sweeten to taste. It should be served hot and ideally in a coffee mug or tea glass. If you like, you can also add a cinnamon stick or use other types of tea (e.g., fruit or apple tea). Always a hit at parties or ski lodges in winter. You can also make the grog in advance and, once it has cooled down, bottle it and then heat it in the microwave, cup by cup.
