How to properly descale the DeLonghi Magnifica S

The DeLonghi Magnifica S informs you that descaling is necessary by lighting up the corresponding LED button. You can recognize the symbol by the two parallel lines with triangles in between.

  1. Switch on your coffee machine.
  2. Empty the water tank completely.
  3. Pour the descaler into the water tank up to the “A” mark.
  4. Then fill the water tank with fresh water up to the “B” mark.
  5. Push the water tank back into the coffee machine.
  6. Place a container with a capacity of at least 1.5 liters under the steam nozzle.
  7. Good to know: independent of the original DeLonghi descalers, cheaper alternatives are often available in drugstores. However, the manufacturer expressly points out that only original descalers should be used. In addition, the guarantee is void if damage occurs as a result of cleaning with sulfamic or acetic acids.

This is how the descaling process works

Press the descaling button for at least five seconds. The corresponding button now lights up continuously.

  1. Slide the steam control lever from “0” to “1”.
  2. The automated descaling now takes about 30 minutes until the water tank is completely empty.
  3. Turn the steam nozzle back to “0”.
  4. Rinse the water tank and the collection container thoroughly and fill the water tank again.
  5. Put both back in the coffee maker.
  6. Reposition the steam nozzle. Your coffee machine will now be flushed with fresh water.
  7. Before you can use your DeLonghi Magnifica S again without hesitation, you should finally set the steam control dial to “0” again and fill the water tank with fresh water.
  8. If the indicator light does not go out by itself, repeat the rinsing process with fresh water.
