Irish soda bread

Spread the love

Ingredients for 1 servings:

  • 500 g flour (whole wheat flour)
  • 500 ml buttermilk
  • 2 tsp, leveled salt
  • 2 tsp, leveled baking soda
  • possibly nuts or seeds

Instructions

Working time approx. 10 minutes; Total time approx. 10 minutes

quick and delicious bread, without yeast

Preheat the oven to 200 degrees Celsius (400 degrees Fahrenheit). Sift the flour into a bowl and add any remaining bran to the flour. Mix the salt and baking soda into the flour. Make a well in the center and pour in the buttermilk. Quickly knead the ingredients with your hands until you have a soft, slightly sticky dough (not too long). Add a little more flour if needed. Shape the dough into a round loaf and place it on a baking sheet lined with baking paper. Flatten the loaf slightly and cut a cross into the center with a sharp knife. Bake the soda bread for 30-40 minutes. The bread is ready when it is nicely browned on top and the bottom sounds slightly hollow. If you like, you can add various seeds or nuts to the dough (e.g., 40 g each of sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, sesame seeds, hazelnuts, and walnuts). Knead in the seeds after kneading the dough, and only then form the round loaf.
