Ingredients for 6 servings:

  • 200 g margarine
  • 300 g sugar
  • 300 g flour
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 packet of baking powder
  • ¼ liter sour cream
  • 1 pack of chocolate coating
  • some red fruit compote for coloring
  • some cocoa powder for coloring
  • some vanilla pudding powder for coloring or food coloring

Instructions

Working time approx. 15 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 20 minutes; Total time approx. 35 minutes

East German birthday cake

Mix together the first 6 ingredients. Divide the batter into three bowls, then color one portion each with the red fruit jelly, cocoa powder, and pudding powder, or with food coloring. Grease a deep baking sheet and dot the batter on top in colorful blobs. Bake in the oven at 200°C (top/bottom heat) for 20 minutes. Let cool. Melt the chocolate coating and spread it on top. This isn’t just for kids!
