Bread substitute from the USA – enough for 8 pieces
Melt the butter in a butter pan. Mix the flour and yeast thoroughly in a bowl. Then add the sugar, salt, lukewarm water, and melted butter. Using a food processor, mix for about 10 minutes until the dough is elastic. Dust the dough with flour, cover with a kitchen towel, and let it rise for 1 hour. Line a baking tray with baking paper. Divide the dough into 8 pieces and shape them into bagels. Make a 4 cm hole in the center of each ball of dough and press down lightly. Place the bagels side by side on the tray, cover, and let rise for half an hour. Preheat the oven to 220°C. Half fill a wide saucepan with water and bring to a boil. Now, place two pieces of dough, top and bottom, into the boiling water for about 30 seconds. Remove with a slotted spoon, drain briefly, and spread on the baking tray. Place in the preheated oven and bake for about 20 minutes until light brown.
