Baked meatballs hunter style

Ingredients for 4 servings:

  • 500 g minced beef
  • 400 g mushrooms
  • 100 g cheese, grated, or alternatively feta or mozzarella
  • 100 g breakfast bacon
  • 1 onion(s)
  • 1 egg(s)
  • 4 breadcrumbs
  • Mustard
  • salt and pepper
  • 250 ml water
  • 100 ml milk
  • 100 ml cream
  • 1 tsp vegetable broth, granulated
  • 1 bunch of parsley
  • 2 tbsp sauce thickener

Instructions

Working time approx. 40 minutes; Cooking/baking time approx. 25 minutes; Total time approx. 1 hour 5 minutes

Clean and slice the mushrooms. Peel and finely dice the onion. Knead the minced meat, 1 egg, half of the onion, breadcrumbs, and 2 teaspoons of mustard together, season with salt and pepper. Form into 8 meatballs. Heat 1 tablespoon of oil in a pan. Fry the meatballs for 2-3 minutes on each side. Remove and place in a baking dish. Brown the bacon, remaining diced onion, and mushrooms in the hot frying fat. Add 250 ml water, 100 ml milk, and the cream. Add 1 teaspoon of vegetable stock and simmer for about 5 minutes. Stir in 2 tablespoons of gravy thickener and simmer for about 1 more minute. Season with salt and pepper. Pour the sauce over the meatballs. Cook in a preheated oven at 200°C (400°F), fan oven at 175°C (350°F) for 20-25 minutes.
